Mid-way between chemotherapies I have a phone consult with my medical oncologist. She wants to know exactly what's been going on with me. Any side effects, pain, discomfort, anything out of the ordinary I may have experienced, she wants to know. She takes that information and adjusts the recipe for the next chemo.
Today, she had a response/solution to the issues I had last week with the red hot burning face & chest as well as the nagging painful agitation in my upper abdomen. From the start, each post-chemo symptom was totally 'news' to me, but of course it wasn't to her. This is what she deals with every day. I'm sure no one surprises her with a new symptom.
So, as much as last week was much better than the first 3, hopefully the next will be even better. She is so happy for me if I've managed to do something to find relief on my own. She's like a dear sweet aunt, so encouraging and loving. She makes all the difference to what otherwise would maybe be too much to bear.
P.S. I met someone today who was happy to share that she went through very similar chemo 17 years ago! That hasn't happened too often, but I'm sure grateful when it does! She took my name, to add to her daily prayers. Awesome!
I love her to pieces and I tell her so. When I tell her how much I appreciate the care she gives me, she'll say "You have made my day, my dear!" Can you imagine what she goes through as the chemo oncologist, every day! God bless her and all medical staff who take good care of us!
