Last week we thought we might start 'practicing for our reunion', by gathering weekly for a picnic at Rocky Point. We'll bring the Aunties and whoever wants to, can join us. Well it was 5*C with a bit of a wind. Larry & I brought extra shawls, blankets, mittens & hats. Even with everyone wearing winter coats and all wrapped up, we froze. We planned to stay from 11:00 till 1:00, but once the fish & chips (from Pajo's) started freezing, we decided to leave at 12:01. We're not meeting next week because its St. Patrick's Day & there'll be a party at the residence where the Aunties live. It's supposed to rain anyway.
Hello. Our large extended family are hoping for a reunion, maybe this year. Our Mom was one of 9 siblings, who produced a lot of children for 1, 2 & 3 generations. We've got a 'Finnigan' Facebook account, and have been having a ball seeing photos from as far back as 110 years ago. Its brought cousins, near & far, together to enjoy where we've come from. With Irish, Acadian roots, hospitality and celebrating have always played a wonderful part in the memories as far back as I can remember. So, from 9 down to only 3 of Mom's generation left, our uncle lives in Kelowna, and our two Aunties are in Coquitlam. I never take for granted the gift that they have always been to me my whole life, and especially now.
The majority of our relatives live in the Lower Mainland and a good bunch in Quesnel & Prince George. Not too many wandered far away, but there are a few.
Thank goodness Covid isn't ruling the day and we can enjoy some freedom, to enjoy one another.
So, looking ahead, we'll keep this really good idea and tweak it according to the weather. We're so happy to be together and look forward to whomever will surprise us with a drop in, at future picnics. There's really no work for anyone, as we each take care of our own lunch.
Hope you get to do something that's joyful & life-giving too. God bless you.
