“Last week Grace passed a major milestone in her treatment. She has now finished her 1st 9 months of treatment aka “frontline chemo”.
I am so inspired by the courage and perseverance of this little girl & cannot imagine what it takes to endure all that she does, as well as for her parents. Grace recently turned 4 yrs. old. This update came yesterday.
Some people say that LTM is where kids start to feel a lot better and are able to return to a normal schedule. The hair tends to grow back. But, others say that LTM is not that much of a reprieve. In fact, the goal for the remainder of her treatment is to keep her immune system suppressed within a certain range.
Next week, she will enter Long-Term Maintenance (LTM), for another 18 months, but at a less intense pace. Instead of going to hospital every 7-10 days, we will only have to go in once per month, which will be a relief.
Right now though, Grace feels pretty good! We are hopeful that this will continue in the months to come.
We had some fun outings in the month of June. We were able to attend a family camp run by Kids Cancer Care, where Grace had an absolute blast and we met a bunch of other parents facing similar circumstances. Also, Grace had fun at the retirement party for her grandpa, where she got to run around like an energizer bunny with her cousin.
This Sunday morning at church, we are having a baby dedication for Grace. It’s something we wanted to do when she was younger, but we were just getting established in Airdrie, then COVID, then cancer, you get the idea.
We know and are so grateful, that many in this group have been faithful in praying for Grace and for our family over the past 9 months.”
I often hear from some of you, that little Grace has found a special place in your own hearts & prayers too. That’s why I share her story with you. Thank you for being part of the ‘village’ for this child’s sake. God bless you.
