4th DAY SINCE SURGERY

10:22 PM

Thank you for checking in. Less tubes again today. Larry is off of all sedation. He is 'sleeping' all the time from the injury to his brain. When the doctor barks out commands (once he's given him a painful poke) "Larry, move your toes, fingers, open your mouth, stick out your tongue, open your eyes"! It's as though the doctor clicks a switch and Larry responds quickly to each command. So, although I don't give him a painful poke, I am certain that he hears what I am saying/singing/praying to him, close to his ear. When Larry is in the recliner chair it’s the best, as I can kiss his face, and (almost) hug him. I love to put my hand beneath his curving fingers, it feels like he's holding my hand as always. (ok, that made me cry!) We watch the monitor and today the breathing lines weren't uniform as they were in the past few days, but that's because he was breathing on his own with a bit of oxygen. The monitors are so amazing. We are so blessed to have this genius care, and devoted, expert medical team. We love the neuro surgeon, ICU specialist doctor. Call me "Dustin" he says. He's always available to us & strait up in his explanations, & always smiling, looking us strait in the eyes. He's only 41 and gives 141%.

The nurse commented today on the beautiful dynamic of our family, as she has witnessed as each of us spends time with Larry. Our boys, Jason & Shane are more than I could ask for in their love & support for their Dad & certainly for me. Larry's always been so easy to love and oh my! Is it ever showing now in the ever flowing waterfall of love and concern from so many. Of course it is flowing over our whole family as well.

Because I've been known to show emotion or as some would say, "an emotional person", I hear from many how pleasantly surprised they are at how well, strong, stoic I am doing. My tears are dry for now. I want and have to be present to everything that his happening to and within Larry. Besides, crying sets of a migraine. I have enough going on without that!  I do surprise myself when I get through the whole song "You'll never know just how much I love you…I speak your name in my every prayer!" Google it if you haven't heard this old song. (Willie Nelson made it popular again). Today though, it was "Peace is flowing like a river" that (I like to believe) kept his breathing very steady. When I left the hospital I received a message from our dear friend Ian, saying "Prayer is flowing like a river to lift up Larry & you and carry you through this!" Lovely gifts like this keep coming to us throughout each day.

OK, I'm done for now. Good night dear loved ones. Peace be with you and yours! Thank you for loving us. I tell Larry of your good wishes to him every day. I know he is absorbing them.

God bless you! xoxo
