7:20 PM
Hello, thank you for joining us.
I just got a call from the hospital to say that Larry is being moved to the Neurology Unit at 8:00 tonight. He has not needed the full care that ICU is fully equipped to provide. I'll call in the morning to get the scoop on what the visiting protocol is.
No dialysis today, so Larry was more alert this afternoon. The nurse was very accommodating in how to best allow us to have a quality visit. Larry's 3.5 hours in the chair was lovely. Once transferred to the chair, he stayed awake for several minutes between his brief naps. Coughing was much less, and only one suctioning in 5 hours. His arms were quite active. He's discovered that he can pick at tape that holds the oxygen monitor on his finger as well as a pic line on his other arm. I held each one up in line with his vision and explained what each of them were for. He nodded that he understood, and did not try picking at them again. He whispered/mumbled words quite often. I understood a few times. He said "Amen" at the end of a prayer. I heard "fwa -fwa- foo", which was "I love you!" We exchanged eye expressions, which was fun sometimes. Especially following a reaaallly good kiss! Actually, there were several good kisses and definitely not in my imagination. His face wore lovely expressions when I showed him several pages of emails wishing him well, reading out the names & commenting on different people. Several wrote (which I read to him) from ADED (Association of Driver Educators for the Disabled) that he was a man of integrity, very professional, helpful, valued mentor, welcoming, friendly & fun. When I asked if he had ever realized how loved he was, he raised his eyebrows with a bit of a surprised look.
For the first time, Larry's chair was put in a position for him to see outside. He sure soaked it in. He was facing north toward where he grew up in Surrey. There was much less struggle during our visit today, and hopefully it will continue to get better. He got creamed today! I massaged Vit. E cream on his hands and feet. He didn't mind that one little bit!
Today… was a very good day! Thank you for being a part of it. God bless you!
Today I saw beauty in many things, I posted 3 pics of 'Treasures in Nature'.
