Hello, welcome to day 3 at Queens Park Rehab.
I spent the morning sorting & going through Larry's office to find a couple of things he wanted to look at. He & I don't share the same filing system, so it took a little more effort than I thought. But 'alas', I did find the 2 he had asked for. He insisted yesterday that it wouldn't be a problem for him to check the files of a couple of clients he had worked with earlier this year. He did look through them after dinner & I suggested he look at them tomorrow, as he won't be as tired, being the weekend without therapy. This is a new stress I find hard to deal with & I'm not sure how it will affect Larry's peace.
By the time I got there after lunch, he'd had 45 minutes of physio & an hour of O.T., plus an interview with the social worker. She had also called me at home. "If there is anything at all we can do to make life easier for you…" Any concerns I had about issues that Larry is still dealing with, were addressed this afternoon by the physiatrist when she visited Larry & I in his room. Larry often spoke of physiatrists, & just now, I looked up what they do. (Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation physicians, treat a wide variety of medical conditions affecting the brain, spinal cord, nerves, bones, joints, ligaments...) And that's exactly what the doctor today did. She spent a lot of time examining his hands & wrists, which are very weak & cause him so much pain, as well as his right foot & ankle which have little mobility. She said that a different physiatrist will see Larry starting on Monday. When she said his name, Larry's eyes lit up. They worked together at the same time for a few years at GF Strong. I'm sure this won't be the last of staff connecting with Larry from their career histories.
Larry spent the whole time in bed. After lunch, there was no more therapy for the day. He stayed in his chair to eat dinner, then right back to bed. He was rather grumpy. He told the doctor, when she asked about his mood, that he was angry first thing in the mornings & he doesn't know why. I can't imagine what is unconscious & sub-conscious mind is putting his conscious mind through, in defining his reality at this time. I sure hope that the help he'll get to un-confuse things will happen soon.
I read Larry a message today that came from a friend who is part of Larry's Wed. a.m. group. His daughter is in grade 3 & asked Daddy if she could read our blog with him, to work on her reading capabilities. He is so happy to have her share in joining our journey. Larry was very moved. We know that she, among many other children, pray for Uncle Larry every day. We are reassured of this special gift all the time.
Some good news is that Larry will start eating foods that are not finely minced or pureed. He was excited to tell me that he can finally drink milk, which he has always been extremely fond of… to say the least.
So, looking forward to a new day tomorrow. Thank you for being companions on our journey! God bless you!
