CRANBERRY FIELDS FOREVER
Friday, Oct. 1, 2021 10:31 PM
HI! (If you haven't looked at the photo of harvesting, on the 'Pics' page, I invite you to!)
Cranberries are recommended for people with kidney problems, helping reduce infection. Well, little did I know how much this morning full of 'cranberries' would make me feel soooooo goooood!
Last night, we drove to the dyke where the Pitt River becomes an arm of the Fraser, (one could say it's the 'Arm Pitt') haha! Larry noticed that one of the cranberry fields was flooded, but unfortunately, we could only see a thin strip of red at the very end of this shallow lake. We went first thing this morning to see if they would still be harvesting. We've lived in Pitt Meadows for 4 years and missed it every season, which I'm always so disappointed about. You can see from the photo, that it was more than a ribbon of berries.
When a young man came along in a jeep, who seemed to be supervising the 'action', we told him how excited we were to finally witness this phenomenal harvesting process. He was so friendly & gracious. He invited us to come down to get closer to the action. Otherwise I wouldn't have gotten the photos that I did. He explained the whole process & invited us to come on Monday when they will start on the 2nd of 3 fields. I felt like a child, it was all so exciting. I told this young man to be sure to tell his mother what a lovely boy she raised. He promised he would!
Until last night, we had no plans for today. What a surprise and treat! We can't wait till Monday.
The great day didn't end there, but I'm too pooped to tell you about the rest of our day right now. I'm off to bed. Stay tuned for tomorrow.
