COUNTING OUR BLESSINGS TODAY

10:44 PM
Thank you for joining us!  This is my 2nd attempt. The last words I wrote for this day, have disappeared. No spell check.

It's 10:00 and I've just come home from a very full day. As we arrived at noon, Shane & I were greeted with "Larry's off of dialysis, as his kidneys are functioning quite well. If he needs a little help, they will put him on for a few hours. He's breathing mostly on his own. They have done cultures to see how his blood (sepsis) is doing!" We were so happy that he was off the dialysis machine. They keep reducing his sedation slowly. Today no wiggling toes, but his jaw was moving. It doesn't sound like much, but it is, as we witnessed little and steady improvement each day in RCH ICU.
I got to spend most of the day alone with Larry, in peace. That has not happened since he went to this hospital, with so much more care needed. We were uninterrupted, as I was able to pray & sing to him in peace. Although he doesn't move his fingers, the familiar feeling of my hand in his is so comforting. A favorite song that Larry learned a couple of years ago, was Caledonia. I played the song for him, sung by Celtic Thunder, with their rich voices. Once Larry learned this song, he'd play his guitar & sing it over & over for an hour. Although he didn't show signs of waking, I felt that this song that he loves so well, sung so beautifully would awaken something in him, or at least give him comfort and maybe even a sense of coming alive.
The nurse today, did not say 'sorry' even once. He was like a mechanic doing oil changes, each time he suctioned Larry. He didn't know much about Larry's journey since July 1st. Until now, each nurse had studied this history quite well. He was just filling in. Tonight he has Val who took such good care of him over the past 3 days.
We did have our pizza picnic at Bear Creek park, that Larry's brother Gordon put together over the last 2 days. Every one did a covid test and happily all tested negative. Yes, we ate pizza and mosquitos & black flies ate us. Some were pretty nasty. There was a lot of excitement when someone told of a bug zapper they bought that takes care of flying bugs within a 1/2 acre radius. Wow.  The stars of the show were our niece's 3 month old twins. It was delightful to see our 15 yr old nephew enjoying them, playing peek-a-boo. A new Bowen generation, how refreshing, especially right now. Many f us had not seen each other over covid, so this was an especially appreciated reunion.
Larry has brought together quite the 'village' of people who are lifting him up. Yesterday, we heard from Zambia, Germany, N. Ireland & Cuba. Word has been sent to Mallorca where many are now praying for Larry & our family.
I will say 'Good night' to this day and look forward to another day of blessings tomorrow. I slept well last night, in spite of the heat, so I hope for the same again. May you sleep well and wake up refreshed. Thank you for your love.
