Z-Z-Z-Z-Z-Z-Z-Z (09.12.22)
Hello, welcome to our very quiet day. Sleep sleep sleep. 1 eye open every so often. Brad, one of Larry's Wed. a.m. friends group, drove me in & stayed to visit his sleepy friend. He was happy just to be present to Larry, even though there weren't really signs that he was aware of Brad's visit. He is no stranger to hospitals, having been through so much with one of his daughters as a baby & little girl. Larry just couldn't keep awake. We hope to make a video of him saying hi to Brad's 4 children who have a special place for him in their hearts, both as Santa & for the youngest 'Scary Larry'. I'll take advantage of Larry's perky times, & tape messages to other special little people in our lives.
I met the unit doctor for this week. Her 1st day on. She's going to find out what's up with the feed tube insertion surgery. When I spoke of Larry's disturbed state, when he drifts out of his sleeping state, continuing his 'nightmare', she asked if we'd like the psychiatrist to visit Larry. When that happens they'll let me know, so I can be present.
The sweet rec therapist came & had Larry put a puzzle together. That was his effort for the day, besides shivering at the end of dialysis. Thankfully that has not happened too often. Blankets from the oven are always welcome.
For a few days now, Larry has not had his wrists tied down at night. The nurse he's had for 4 days has really been very attentive to Larry's needs & helping facilitate more comfort. Actually, there has been a super team, day & night for a while. Larry also frequently expresses his appreciation to the team members, for their constant care. Another nurse he's had for a few days, has fallen in love with Larry, treating him like a beloved family member. She expresses often, how moved she is by Larry's kindness & the love that she sees between he & I. She was very emotional when she told me how much she loved us, & gave me a hug. I told her how much we love her & how grateful we are for her loving care, to do her best for Larry's sake.
Please pray for Larry's pressure wounds to heal. They are very raw & another seems to be starting up. The nurse has put in a request for the open wound nurse to check on Larry tomorrow. I know its not leprosy, but I've asked St. Damian of Molokai to pray for Larry. For all that he's been going through, these wounds are very dangerous if not healed soon.
Speaking of prayer. Yesterday before Mass began, I was praying. At some point in my prayers each day I surrender to God. Yesterday, I was so tired & weak & this is what came out "Lord, I collapse into your arms!" Wow! If it's hard to explain what it is to surrender to God, I don't think there need be an explanation to what it is to collapse! And at the end of this day, that's exactly what I'll be doing in a few minutes. Good night. God bless you! xoxo
