SUCH A BUSY DAY FOR LARRY (09.13.22)
Welcome to Larry's busy day.
- Psychiatrist assessment with Larry, after calling me to get a better picture of how his doom & gloom statements come about, i.e. while in & out of delirium or when lucid; followed by lucid apologies & explanations.
- Open Wound Nurse - assessment & new care management. The nurses are more confident with this new way of taking care of Larry's pressure wounds (bed sores). They are large & raw, not to mention extremely painful. Larry did not wince once today or shift from discomfort around his tail bone area. We are so relieved.
- Occupational therapy - assessment & eye patch to help with double vision
- Urinary tract procedure.
- Physio in the gym - 75% stand & other exercises, needing little assistant support.
- Arm exercises with me, while in his wheel chair .
- X-Ray for surgery tomorrow.
Larry's Aunt Rosie & Cousin Laurie (fr Wms. Lk.) came for a while. Visit interrupted by X-Ray. A lovely smile from Larry & enthusiastic 'Hi Rosie!" & simply quiet hand holding & nodding off.. all around.
Tonight, Larry's bro John & El are spending time with him.
Larry had a few upsetting bouts of coughing & choking with some discomfort from all the poking he took today. We still had our intimate time of 'face to face' & hugs. He worked so hard today, as he does each day! I tell him he's a champion & thank him for working so hard.
On the way home, I saw the beautiful sunset sky as I turned off of the Golden Ears bridge. It's always a great view, minus the buildings & telephone wires interrupting the scene. Almost every time we drove that way in the past, & I commented on how beautiful the sky was, Larry automatically drove a little further toward the Pitt Meadows Airport & the dykes near by, so we could get out & I could take a picture. He knows how much I enjoy that & he has always been so obliging in facilitating my joy, no matter what it is.
As I was taking pictures & walking back to the car, a song came into my head: "Things" by Bobby Darin (1962) ("Thinking about the things we used to do...") have a listen. 2nd time this week that a song 'just for Larry & I' came to me as a gift.
Please pray for the success of Larry's feed tube insertion through abdominal wall into his intestine (I think that's what the Dr. said they'd have to do, as the 3 options for inserting into stomach were not possible). Stay tuned for an update tomorrow. He told me he was having surgery. He has never fretted or questioned it when he's been told of any procedure. He is so amazing. He's been through more since July 1 than most people have been through in a whole life time. Pray also for J. a 45 yr old woman who was in the room next to Larry. She came in because of a virus that attacked her brain & was transferred to VGH today. A lot of sadness & fear for her family.
Thank you for journeying with us. God bless you & all those you love!
