NOSE FEEDING TUBE GONE (09.14.22)
Hello, welcome!
I came in to an empty room. Larry for the 1st time was receiving dialysis out of his room. He was wheeled down, bed & all to the dialysis clinic. I was told I could go to be with him, but I was only able to give him his hearing aids & leave. I saw him an hour later in his room. Thankfully, this time he wasn't shivering cold following his treatment.
The nurse was thinking out loud, reciting the readings, followed by "Good!", of blood pressure, blood sugar, oxygen, hemoglobin, etc. He was only back for an hour when be was transferred to a transport bed & taken for surgery. I accompanied him, as I had to sign consent forms. The anesthesiologist & surgeon were very nice. It was the same doctor who spoke to me following the 1st attempt to insert the feeding tube. It wasn't very long before the surgeon phoned me to say that it went well. With the help of a camera down his throat to his stomach, she was able to insert the tube through the abdominal wall into his stomach. A welcome surprise is that the nose tube was removed & he doesn't have to wait 24 hrs. for it to happen, as was originally told to us.
It's 6:00 & he's tucked into his bed now. Once in a while he wakes & holds his stomach & says it hurts. Although he won't be getting his feed through the new tube until later, the nurse will give him meds for the pain through it now.
We've not had much time together today. But he managed to laugh while the nurses were getting him ready to go for surgery. His eyes were closed as I was stroking his forehead & face. He said "Who's doing that?" When I said "No one else better touch you the way that I do!" he laughed.
I'm going to stay a bit longer. I hope the meds help him sleep through the night & he has little or no pain tomorrow. The doctor will check on him then.
