Hello, thank you for joining us today. This little guy kept me company at lunch, following Larry's "Don't bug me!" statement.
I walked in on Larry having his swallowing therapy. It's not for too long, so I thought Larry might like to continue with a few mouth/lips/tongue exercises. He basically said, "Don't bug me!" He said that he never gets rest because as soon as he's done one thing, he's asked to do another & there is no rest between. He must not have had a restful sleep because there are usually 1 - 2 hour naps between therapies or visits. But I know, that when I don't wake up refreshed & rested, that I feel sleep deprived too. So, I let him be. And he was right, the physio came soon after to sit him up at the side of his bed with his feet planted on the floor. He needed no support, other than his hands on the bed beside him. He was able to 'hi 5' the physio's hand as she moved it from one side to the other. She asked if he'd like to try standing. He declined. When I mentioned that Larry has only been in his wheelchair twice in almost 3 weeks, she said they'd start tomorrow. Geraldine was visiting & peeking through the curtains, happy to see Larry's workout. She wears a few hats when she visits, one being her O.T. hat.
Larry had a good hour's sleep when, a physio assistant returned, to have Larry work on strengthening his arms, legs & core. He did an extra set of each one, that he was asked to do.
He actually was quite awake & interactive, following that set. He enjoyed his nurse's account of his one & only camping trip last summer. Larry kept shaking his head, hearing complaints about how long the line-up was to get into the shower. He enjoyed hearing me boast of the camping skills of 'Tarp Man'. The nurse couldn't believe that Larry would do so much work to set up camp.
I'm still trying to download the videos from yesterday with Larry speaking, so here's what he said. He wanted to do another, after feeling that he looks a little too sleepy, for the 1st one. He sure made up for it in the 2nd, as he stretched his eyes wide open & exposed all of his teeth with a forced smile:
- "Thank you, Lord, for being by my side in the most treacherous times. And I pray that You will send all good people my way, that they will guide me and prepare me for what's to come. I just thank You, Lord for all these things. Amen."
- "Hi everybody! I hope you're having a good time; I sure am! I hope that soon I will be able to share my happy days with you. Amen!"
Re: Larry's hearing aids, he asked for them today. He knows he's missing out on a lot, without them. I just spoke to Costco, & the insurance coverage no longer applies. If you know of any hearing aids not being used, might we borrow them for now? Thank you.
God bless you. Take care! Enjoy the daylight, as it is quickly decreasing. I stopped by the river on the way home, a little after 6:00 to take in the sun setting (actually to have a wee nap, to keep awake on the rest of the drive). Hard to believe that it was almost dark when I got home. I'll have to figure out timing on how I can soak in the beauty of the fresh autumn outdoors. I hope you will too! xoxo
