ANOTHER DAY! (10.22.22)
Friday, October 21, 2022 6:49 PM
Hello, thanks for joining us! (This pic is the view Larry sees when he has a little galivant in his wheelchair.)
A very quiet day today! Larry had already finished with O.T., which included arm exercises. We've been doing them on our own most days, but today Larry really felt it. That means he's working hard. The therapist told him that his right hand is weaker than his left. I haven't noticed, so I don't think it's too bad. Geraldine put her O.T. hat on today & had him squeeze her forearm. I could see the difference between the two hands. So, we'll work more with that.
I gave Larry some options for an activity & he said "Drawing!" We each take turns adding a shape to the picture. His hand (right) was very steady compared to a couple of weeks ago. I didn't see any therapists today but read the 'rehab workout' material they left. There is a lot we do already & some new really good ones we'll start trying. Some are warmup stretches, other's strength building & some for eye/hand coordination. One of the suggestions was Lego, which bro. John S brought tonight along with a wooden puzzle.
I reminded Larry of how I was so disabled last year by the radiation treatments. I had such excruciating pain in my groin that I could not bend over very much at all. He had to help me with my pants, socks & shoes. Most days I walked only 250 steps. That disability seems so long ago now & almost forgotten. I told him how inspired I am by all the suffering he has endured & how very far he's come. In his video he said, 'most torturous times', and they absolutely were!
Larry strummed his guitar for a while today & played from a music sheet. Its awkward to play in bed & he didn't get to sit in his wheelchair today. It makes for a longer day without the breakout of bed. He also did leg exercises on his own. Tomorrow hopefully will be a more accommodating day for getting some 'feet on the floor' exercises. Knees up Mother Brown, for sure!
The staff were run off of their feet, more than usual today, due to being short staffed & more patients. There are not enough rooms to accommodate the number of patients, so there they are… in the hallways. I can't imagine, with the bright lights, loud noises & the coming & going of people & equipment.
It was almost dark on my way home, but I did stop by a colourful maple tree lit by a streetlight. It's my first autumn tree photo. I think Shane plans to go in tomorrow morning, so hopefully I can enjoy a bit of nature on my way in a little later than usual.
God bless you. Thank you for your kind wishes & encouragement. We feel it! WE hold you in our own hearts & prayers. Of all that we wish you, 'peace' is the bottom line! xoxo
