AN EXTRA HOUR'S SLEEP TONIGHT! (11.05.22)

Saturday, November 5, 2022 7:25 PM
Hello! Welcome to a reasonably quiet day!
No therapies today, as there usually are none on weekends. Larry did arm & leg exercises in his wheelchair while Shane was visiting. He also did the 'yellow ball' resistance chin exercise, to continue strengthening his throat. He cannot drink water or other thin liquids safely, without choking. Getting enough liquids is a challenge. I'm getting more creative with disguising the liquid supplement (Boost). I mixed it in with the fruit Greek yogurt milkshake I brought him. I poached a pear with a bit of brown sugar & he really liked it, mixed in with his vanilla pudding. Dinner tonight was a treat, with a filet of white fish. Larry is eating better with each meal. Yams & apples are roasting as we speak for tomorrow.
I was excited to give Larry one of his favorite golf shirts to wear today. I was helping him put it on, over his head, when he started yelling. Ugh! I totally forgot that he's hooked up to an IV for fluids again. So much for that!
We had a couple of hours visiting with him in the chair after his lunch (in bed). They've given him 'stuff' to aid his digestion, so it's not so easy to think that he'll be able to be in the chair for most of the day, as the doctor said he should be. Actually, Larry said that his pressure sores were quite painful. Not sure when that will correct itself, but it can't be too soon. I realized today that with Larry having had such serious issues, that nurses can't always address every single thing every day, as much as we & they would like to. Although, for the first time, Larry is not the most ill patient in the room, needing the most attention.
So that was our day! I left Larry watching Tim Conway & Harvey Corman, performing the Laundry skit. It's so good to see him laugh. I passed by a bed in the hallway, where the patient's wife was sitting on his bed beside him. He had his arm wrapped around her, consoling her. They looked about our age. It hurts my heart to see that image in my mind.
Don't forget to 'Fall back' with your clocks tonight. I know that each year, there are a lot of people who are an hour early for church, or as the time turns to daylight saving, an hour late. Larry slept well last night with a little help, so I hope he'll enjoy an extra hour tonight & have a wakey, wakey day tomorrow!   God bless you!
