SETTING GOALS & MOVING FORWARD (11.24.22)

Welcome to another exciting day!
Larry had his first shower since July 1, & he said it was wonderful! The team at Queens Park have certainly taken every need, concern & the dignity of their clients into consideration. The interviews & assessments are thorough, followed by very intentional attention.
Larry's Roho seat cushion & mattress were installed today. Just as I arrived the physio team of 2, came to work with Larry, getting him out of bed, up to a walker, then into his wheelchair. They carefully assessed every part of his body for strengths & weaknesses, asking him to be conscious of the positioning of his feet, hands, his posture. He didn't do much that he'd not done before, but as the physio said, you're not doing this just to say "I stood up today! It has to be done well, before moving forward!" Once Larry stood straight & tall, the physios let go of his elbows, for him to stand on his own. And so, he did! He looks so tall, after not seeing him stand for so long. As he was working hard & achieving greater quality, balance & strength in each of his exercises, it was very emotional to witness. Shane had arrived in the middle of the session. He & I were wiping our eyes. Larry too, shed tears & his physio was so lovely with him at that time, gently stroking his back. It's really a gift when Shane's work takes him to New West or Burnaby, so he can visit on his breaks.
The place is buzzing with therapists, as it should be, as a rehabilitation centre. Larry is so excited & encouraged by the opportunity that's been given him for his rehabilitation. I love listening to him using therapist's 'technical' lingo with the team. The assistant today, had worked at GF Strong for a few years, while Larry was still there. It's fun to hear them 'remember when & who'! The physio told Larry to enjoy his bed for the afternoon, because tomorrow, he'll be more out of bed than in, ready for the hard work.
Larry & I took a walkabout, & found the garden, with the gazebos. It was around 4:00 so it started to cool down. Larry & I are looking forward to taking more strolls outside.  We talked about it being a great environment for 'Santa' to have visits from wee ones. Hopefully there'll be a sunny afternoon for that in December.
Larry's got a big day tomorrow & it's been long awaited. God bless you! xoxo
I posted a few pics that I took today.
