  I arrived at 11:30 & Larry was finished with his therapies for the day. He didn't have much to say when I asked how they went. He couldn't wait for lunch to come, so he could go to bed soon after. He sat in an all too familiar posture, with is head slumped forward, eyes closed & hands clasped, sitting in his wheelchair. He engages in zero conversation. No "How are you? or What's new?" There is always a bit of this each day, but today was for the whole time. After floating yesterday on the hopeful joy, we shared, there was no floating today. Some days, like this one, I don't have the patience to endure his self-defeating complaints. There was a group session following lunch, but not for his abilities. He said "OK!" to going to watch. He was able to do a couple of things from his chair. The others were standing up to the bar. He went to bed strait away upon returning to his room. By this time, he really needs a good nap. Because he is now working with the O.T. on self-care & getting dressed, I showed him the drawers that I organized & labeled with his clothes & toiletries & set out his clothes for tomorrow. I kissed him good-by, as he lay in bed.

  For all the torture that he endured for months, without complaint, my hope is for him to try to overcome the temptation to give in to the negativity. I certainly know first-hand what depression is, & no, it isn't easy to switch gears. The social worker last week invited us to talk with her if this sort of thing is happening. So, I will!

  My heart was heavy when I left home, after receiving a request to pray for the little 10-month-old grandson of a friend. He has a very serious respiratory condition & has been in hospital since Sunday. He has now been transferred from a Fraser Valley hospital to RCH. He is so beautiful & the picture of health. It's very hard to imagine him so ill. His name is Jesse! Please pray for him, his parents & family.

  After I left Larry, I went to RCH to wish Larry's old roommate happy birthday. She was very excited to see me & hear about how well Larry is doing. She still has not been diagnosed after 8 weeks & is likely going to have a brain biopsy. Another prayer please for Lisa! Between the business & full room of visitors for her birthday, there was a quiet moment & she gave an "Amen & thank you!" for me holding her hand & praying with her. She turned 51 today & has a teen-age son. Larry's old corner of the room now has an elderly lady, very much in the condition that Mom B. was in, in her last days. The lady's son is so lovingly attentive to her. I expressed to him how blessed I was to witness his love for her. As I told him that I am praying for 'Mom' & him, he cried. It is such a precious time, both sad & beautiful!
